Happy Earth Day!

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the next generation of climate activists who are stepping up with vision and purpose.

One of those changemakers is Alice Giordano, a high school freshman from New York and one of our inspiring Earth Day Ambassadors. Alice brings passion, clarity, and hope to the climate conversation. Through her advocacy and involvement in programs like FXB Climate Advocates, she reminds us that climate action is rooted in care—for our planet, for each other, and for the future.

Below, Alice shares her perspective on climate activism, the importance of community, and why she chooses to stay hopeful.

Finding Hope Through Community and Action

The Role of Community in Youth Climate Action

I believe climate change is an international issue that needs to be addressed by today’s youth. Sometimes it feels like my generation is pressured to address climate change, but I think the pressure only motivates us to fight for our future.

I find that building a sense of community helps me to continue advocating, even when the issue feels overwhelming. One way I’ve connected with other youth climate activists is through the FXB Climate Advocates Program, and I’ve found it to be incredibly promising and inspiring. Every person in the program is so motivated and driven which brings me such hope.

My Journey into Climate Activism

I began learning about climate change in middle school, and as I researched more and more about it I grew more and more horrified. I’ve looked up to Greta Thunberg, Jane Goodall, and other climate activists as inspiration for my own activism. I’ve always loved animals, so seeing the beautiful biodiversity of our planet being stripped away has been sickening.

I’ve been lucky enough to not face the direct effects of climate change yet, and I want to use that privilege to help others who are facing the very real and dangerous impacts right now.

Looking to the Future

In the future, I want to work with animals and be an ecologist. That’s really what sparked my journey into climate activism. I think awareness is a huge part of solving climate change, and climate education and general outreach needs to improve. I know what my generation is capable of. If more people were clearly aware of just how serious this crisis is, I think we’d be even more ready and able to take it on. Community is so important in this work.

As a youth climate activist, I recognize the potential weight of this crisis on our future, and I’m opting to remain optimistic. It’s so easy to only focus on the negative, so I’ve decided to stay positive. Some days that means stepping away from my phone or choosing not to read the news for a little while.

Overall, I feel incredibly motivated—and I know I’m not alone. My generation is hopeful, optimistic, and ready to face the climate crisis head-on.
